The Santa Monica campus adds another dimension to the Master Ferrero Programme, providing access to a dynamic and innovative space with avant-garde facilities.

Before joining the Master in Innovation in Food Science and Technology – Michele Ferrero at the Catholic University of Cremona, Elena Rinaldi, from Turin, gained solid training and experience abroad. "I earned a bachelor's degree in Food Science and Technology at the University of Turin and then a master's degree in Food Science for Innovation and Authenticity at the Free University of Bolzano. My academic path provided me with a strong foundation in the fields of food fermentation, food chemistry, microbiota, new food technologies, omics technologies, and laboratory analysis applied to food. Furthermore, during my Master of Science, I spent a semester abroad at University College Cork in Ireland, where I had the opportunity to delve into the New Development Process, connecting business and science, and to improve my creativity."

What was the main reason you chose the Master Ferrero Programme?
The main reason I chose the Master Ferrero Programme is certainly its unique combination of academic and hands-on company experience in one of the leading companies in the food sector worldwide.
Furthermore, another compelling aspect of this Master was the Business Case project, which allows the development of a new product in Ferrero's portfolio and engages directly with practical challenges in the field.
Finally, having the possibility to collaborate with professionals from diverse backgrounds, with their perspectives and experiences, will undoubtedly enrich my own understanding.

As you know, the approach involves teamwork, multitasking, and meeting tight deadlines. What do you think about these aspects? Which ones do you believe will be valuable for your professional career?
I am fully aware that the Master Ferrero Programme is designed to simulate the fast-paced, high-pressure environment of the corporate world.
Teamwork is crucial, and I believe my past experiences working in collaborative environments have prepared me well for this.
The aspect of multitasking is equally important, and meeting tight deadlines is another essential component. In this regard, I am accustomed to working with deadlines, whether in academic assignments or professional projects.

The Master Programme includes a close connection between university studies and company experience. What is your opinion of this?
In my opinion, the integration of academic knowledge with real-world business operations provides students with a unique advantage, allowing them to apply theoretical concepts to tangible business challenges.
The close connection with Ferrero and the opportunity to collaborate on projects will enhance my ability to think critically, innovate, and solve problems in a business environment.

Besides your studies, is there any other significant experience that has helped shape your professional path and future expectations?
I have a particular internship that has shaped my professional path. Indeed, at Nutramentis company, I was tasked with working on a project related to the addition of a novel antioxidant in two types of soft drinks, as well as studying the influence of this compound on the shelf life of the beverages through antioxidant activity measurements. Here, I could deepen my knowledge and passion for several analytical techniques, product formulation, and statistics. Moreover, it allowed me to improve my teamwork, problem-solving, and time management skills.

Is there an agrifood topic, perhaps among those you are studying, that you find particularly interesting, and why?
One agrifood topic that particularly interests me is the study of functional ingredients in food and their potential to enhance sensory qualities, nutritional value, and overall food quality.
There is an urgent need for innovative solutions to increase agricultural productivity, address malnutrition, and reduce the ecological footprint of food production. Technologies such as traditional and precision fermentation, along with other cutting-edge innovations, have the potential to revolutionize the food industry.
I am particularly fascinated by how these advancements can be integrated with functional ingredients to create a more sustainable, nutritious, and efficient food system.
Studying food from different perspectives within the Master Ferrero Programme will provide me with the knowledge and tools to contribute to the transformation of the global food system.

What do you think your professional opportunities will be after completing the Master’s Programme?
I believe I will be well-positioned to explore a variety of professional opportunities in the food industry. This Master will enhance my awareness of effective study practices, strengthen my expertise, and foster personal growth.
Additionally, Ferrero’s emphasis on leadership and innovation will equip me with the tools necessary to take on managerial roles in the future.
I am excited to work and contribute to the complex and challenging food system through my perspective and abilities.
